Expert Bamboo Guidance from a caring team of hardworking individuals

  • 4 Membership Plans: Training Bamboo to your Unique Vision

As every bamboo is different, we also understand that our clients, too, have different long-term envisionings for their bamboo. We can create a boxy clean-cut dense curtain/wall hedge look or let the bamboo grow to maximum height while just trimming and shaving the sides. Some clients prefer to showcase the bamboo culms on the lower few feet and establish an upper canopy line. Not everyone wants a solid wall; others prefer to maintain individual plants spaced out further apart from each other and sometimes like them shaped in a certain way. Whatever your vision is, we will do our best to make it a reality!

We have 4 membership plans based on your needs. Our specialists will discuss with you about your unique vision and which bamboo membership plan is best for you.

Each plan includes trim and tie upright, feed and fertilize, clean, growth management, root mass management, bamboo health check-up, natural disater bamboo rejuventation, and expert guidance and support.

Green Screen Hedge Plan - Upright Hedge Trim

Royal Forest Hedge Plan - Upright Hedge Trim + Naked Leg Trim

trimming lower leaves and branches to reveal smooth naked culm to your desired height. Most people choose to trim all leaves and branches 3-4' ft and below. Some varities of bamboo grow this way naturally.

Canopy Cut Hedge Plan - Upright Hedge Trim + Bamboo Top-Off

cutting off the tops of bamboo to a certain height not to exceed 18 ft tall. Do you want the luxury of giant diameter bamboo culms, but don't want it to get too tall? This plan is for you!

Palace Hedge Plan - Upright Hedge Trim + Naked Leg Trim + Bamboo Top-Off

combining all three plans above into one Palace plan.

Membership rate varies depending on which plan you choose, how many total bamboo linear ft you have, and which bamboo variety we are servicing.

  • Bamboo Trimming

Our specialists are trained to trim the bamboo upright, trimming any excess to create a clean and upright look. We know when to trim and how much to trim. There are 4 different distinct trimming preferences corresponding to 4 membership plans we offer, and, depending on which style you choose, your membership rate may be affected. As a member, the more you communicate with us about your preferences, the better we can serve you.

  • Bamboo Tying

Our specialists are trained to tie your bamboo upright, secured with camouflaged rope, to train new shoots and prevent leaning from heavy rainfall. With each service, tying is foundational for creating the bamboo hedge or the ornamental bamboo specimen of your dreams. Metal stakes may be purchased for an additional low-cost if needed (not required).

  • Expert-Driven Bamboo Health Check-Up

Our bamboo service team will pay close attention to the health of your bamboo on your scheduled services, searching for any causes of concern, and you will be informed with solutions to any issues found. We ask that you also notify us of any issues the moment you see them; do not wait unti the problem gets worse, so we can address it and find a solution as quickly as possible. We strive to have all your preferences written in the service notes to ensure a positive service experience every time, and we appreciate your time to inform us about anything specific you may be concerned about.

  • Bamboo Cleaning

Cleaning the base of the bamboo of bamboo debris to create a clean look. We haul away bamboo cuttings and debris to recreate a clean look upon our departure from your property.

  • Bamboo Growth Management to Achieve Uniformity

Clumping bamboo has two main shooting seasons: beginning in the late spring–early summer, producing foliage throughout the summer, and the second set of shoots emerge at the end of summer–early fall, producing foliage throughout the fall until the winter time when the bamboo focuses on conserving energy within the root systems, expanding its roots primarily in preparation for the next shooting season; growth above ground will have slowed down as the cooler weather becomes consistent, moving into dormancy. Each set of shoots generally will be taller and thicker than the previous set until the bamboo reaches full maturity. Clumping bamboo will mature fully in ~4 years. Once a new shoot sprouts foliage, the bamboo culm will not grow taller or thicker.

The Seasonal Bamboo Maintenance Program suports and manages the new and old generational growth to achieve ultimate uniformity and optimal culm health by preventing over-conjestion of culms and removing older generational growth as more mature growth fills in; if the growth is not managed, there are many inconveniences which may arrise to various degrees.

As a member, we will follow your bamboo closely to make sure its in the most optimal state of good health.

The goal is to reach your bamboo goals as fast as possible, keep the bamboo healthy, thriving, and looking super fresh and clean year-round!

  • Root Mass Growth Management for Boundaries

Don’t let your bamboo go— let us manage the growing and gradually expanding root mass. Whether you have clumping or running bamboo, we have unique solutions for maintaining bamboo roots within your boundary lines. Clumping bamboo has a solid wooden vertical root structure which grows about 6-12” inches wider each year with new culm growth. When clumping bamboo roots have no more space to grow, they get creative by growing new roots on top of the existing roots, pushing up on objects, like fences or walls and can even pile their roots on a driveway or sidewalk.

Although this happens gradually at no sudden surprise, our service will regularly shave off some bamboo root mass (i.e. every other year or when necessary after your bamboo is established) which surpasses your specific boundaries (e.g. keeping root mass 12” away from the fence at all times). This is nothing to be scared of and can be easily managed by our specialists when we service your bamboo. Running bamboo can be contained with root barriers which we can deliver and install for you. We can also clean up any bamboo invasions or remove the running bamboo and replace it with a non-invasive clumping bamboo instead.

Contact us about your current situation, and we will do our best to help you.

  • Organic, Pet-Safe LIVE SUPER SOIL for Bamboo

All new members get an initial feeding/composting with organic cured high-nitrogen microbial-rich decomposing manure compost which is a powerhose of nutrition for the bamboo, boosting their growth immensely. After your first member application, we will only reapply every winter service to protect those precious underground brains (root systems) in the winter season. This compost application provides the best protection for bamboo roots against a freeze due to the organic matter in the compost continuously being heated by the high nitrogen content. The decomposed manure compost continuously heats up the bamboo root systems protecting them in harsh below-freezing temperatures.

What's more is it serves as a great annual feeding for your bamboo too, so that the root systems can have more energy to grow even faster the following bamboo growing season. This super-charged compost solution is packed with nitrogen and essential microbes for spectacular soil health that your bamboo will thrive on!

With annual composting, your bamboo’s growth will be boosted with everything it needs for a much more productive shooting season.

The more we assist our bambo, the better they grow for us and the faster the desired results are acheived.

  • Organic Bamboo Amendments/Fertilizer Mix

Organic, pet-safe LIVE SUPER SOIL AMENDMENT TRIPLE INGREDIENT, MEGA-MICRO MIX application on every service specially designed by us for bamboo to be used as a soil amendment to organically super-charge bamboo growth. This mix in neutral colored, organic, in granular form and blends in well with the soil; because of this, you may not even notice it unless you look right after applying it as rain will dissolve it intothe soil.

    1. High Nitrogen Slow-Release Grass Fertilzier

    2. Myccorhizal Fungi

    3. Bamboo Biochar

  • Natural Disaster Support & Rejuventation

One thing we can not control is how Mother Earth chooses to express herself. We can't control or predict the weather, so we have found various techniques to provide bamboo protection from freezing weather which  is the biggest environmental concern when growing certain varieties of bamboo. We offer the Winter Protection Plus membership add-on which is essentialy a partial greenhouse which focses on protecting the bamboo 6-10 ft and below. We also apply a thick nitogen rich compost to keep the roots warm and protected as well.

If the certain variety of bamboo you have gets freeze damaged a lot, make sure you have all protection measures in place. Contact us about how to rejuventate your bamboo, post freeze.

We combine our knowledge about bamboo growth and your current situational needs in order to provide the best service and/or recovery experience for your bamboo.

  • Advise | Support | Guidance

When you join the program, we have the opportunity to follow your bamboo journey closely, providing you expertise, advise and guidance whenever your bamboo needs it. Do not hestitate to call, text or email us for support. We are an information hub for bamboo, and all bamboo members get unlimited consulting.

  • Lifetime Warranty

All members with Amazon Bamboo's Irrigation System unlock a lifetime warranty on all bamboo that tolerates 15°F and below! Although it is difficult to kill bamboo, we will replace qualifying bamboo varieties if the root system completely dies. All we ask is that you don’t let your bamboo dehydrate or come into contact with chemicals such as weed killers. It is especially important to hydrate after below-freezing temperatures stabilize above freezing. Our cured manure compost will protect your bamboo root systems in below-freezing temperatures by continuously providing heat due to the high nitrogen content from the decomposing manure. Opting out of the winter compost application, failing to hydrate your bamboo, or chemical abuse will void this warranty.

Seasonal Service Cycles Explained

Spring Cycle
(March 1st - May 31st)

Spring is the time of the year when the temperature begins to warm and clumping bamboo begins to wake up and sprout out new foliage in preparation for the first shooting season of the year which begins in the late spring and early summer time! Your bamboo roots have been patiently waiting and storing energy getting ready for the moment new shoots will burst through the topsoil; this new growth requires a lot of energy from your bamboo, so it's only natural for your bamboo to sprout many new leaves in order to get as much energy from the sun as possible (photosynthesis). The Spring Service Cycle is designed to optimize growth by removing some culms that are no longer serving the purposes of overall health, optimal growth rate, uniformity and aesthetics in order to create space for the new shoots which will serve these purposes *without sacrificing your needs like privacy.

Spring Service includes:

  • Trimming just the right amount of foliage for optimal energy storage and aesthetics
  • Tying when needed to maintain an upright look
  • Training to your preferences
  • Removing some old growth no longer serving a useful purpose
  • Removing some old growth taking to much unnecessary energy from the roots
  • Removing some old skinny growth to create space for bigger new shoots
  • Maintaining your needs (privacy and/or aesthetics)
  • Applying organic high-nitrogen, slow release fertilizer (gray-colored granules)
  • Hauling away cuttings and cleaning
Summer Cycle
(June 1st - August 31st)

At the end of spring and early summer time is when it is warm enough and your bamboo has built up the energy it needs to product new bamboo shoots at accelerated rates. New bamboo culms will fully mature in just about 60 days; once they begin sprouting leaves, they will not grow any taller or get any thicker. Depending on the bamboo variety and growing conditions you have, your bamboo may produce less or more than about a half dozen of new shoots and a lot of new foliage. Your bamboo will continue to produce new foliage throughout the summer and truly lush out at incredibly fast rates. You may notice after a big rain that some bamboo culms may lean over due to the top heaviness of the foliage. The Summer Service Cycle is designed to manage all of this new abundant growth in an aesthetically pleasing way, so you can enjoy the beauty of your rapidly growing bamboo.

Summer Service Includes:

  • Trimming excess unnecessary foliage to create an aesthetically pleasing look
  • Tie new bamboo growth with preexisting bamboo growth to create an upright look
  • Training to your preferences
  • Maintaining your needs (privacy and/or aesthetics)
  • Apply organic, high nitrogen, slow-release fertilizer (gray-color granular)
  • Hauling away cuttings and cleaning
Fall Cycle
(September 1st - November 30th)

At the end of summer and early fall is when the second set of new shoots will emerge from the surface creating more abundance you weren't expecting to continue to produce all in one year! These shoots will be taller and thicker than the batch done before and will also fully mature in just about 60 days, until they become mostly dormant in preparation for the winter season.

Fall is a little bit different than summer shoots, because they will not completely leaf out; these shoots will show a little foliage sprouting on the top of the "stick" (culm) and will not leaf out below that until the following spring season. What you'll see instead is the culm's protective sheath (papery covering on the node of the bamboo culm) which protects the bud (where branches and leaves grow from)  until the spring season when the sheaths will fall off and the culms will continue to produce foliage and fill in even more densely. What looks like only sticks are actually healthy bamboo culms waiting for the right time to show themselves; some culms may leaf out still during this time depending on the temperature. The Fall Service Cycle is designed to manage these new shoots and growth which grew after your summer service.

Fall Service includes:

  • Trimming excess growth which grew after the summer service
  • Tying new shoots with existing growth to maintain an upright look
  • Maintaining your needs (privacy and/or aesthetics)
  • Apply organic, high nitrogen, slow release granular fertilizer
  • Hauling away cuttings and cleaning
Winter Cycle
(December 1st - February 28th)

Winter season is the time of year when bamboo begins to rest and conserve energy and pole production has paused. The roots will focus on energy conservation and root mass development during this season, but the growth above ground has become mostly dormant. The bamboo is now very hungry after all the growth they have produced and need to be fed some real substance in order to optimize root development. Instead of using granular fertilizer like in the other three seasonal services, we will now apply our nutrient-rich cured manure compost on your bamboo roots. Our organic compost mixture is packed with nitrogen which gives your bamboo the energy boost it needs for a highly productive growing season. The high content of nitrogen from the curing manure is what continuosly heats up the organic material in the compost which acts like an electric heating blanket that doesn't turn off throughout the winter season.

Your bamboo roots will be warm and protected from freezing temperatures even if the bamboo culms above ground freeze and die; the roots will still be preserved producing culm growth again with *minor set backs (bamboo is the fastest growing grass in the world!). It is very rare for the bamboo roots to completely die but if they do, we will replace it. Even if you have rocks or gravel around your bamboo, we highly recommend allowing our team to carefully move the gravel away from only the main root system, apply the compost neatly at the root base, and spread the gravel back as clean as possible.

*Please understand that by denying the composting service, your bamboo will not be insured or complimentarily replaced by us if a freeze were to, in rare cases, kill your bamboo's root system completely. Our compost service is how we can protect your bamboo, so please allow us to apply at least some compost to activate your full winter protection and coverage. The compost is also loaded with essential microbes for building great soil health contributing to higher carbon sequestration!

Winter Service Includes:

  • Organic, cured, high-nitrogen manure compost application on all bamboo roots even near gravel (to activate full winter protection & coverage)
  • Cleaning up the base of your bamboo
  • Light trimming and tying as needed

Have a Running Bamboo Forest?

Many people do have established running bamboo groves and forests, some of which have been established since the 50s or even older in some cases. We specialize in forest cleaning, monitoring and growth management. Bamboo forests are extremely beautiful and beneficial to our environment and biodiversity, but do not work for everyone’s taste. Running bamboo groves/forests are best grown on large properties where spreading is not an issue. Do you need a forest cleanup for your ranch, retreat center, park or zoo? Running bamboos' most aggressive growing season is in the spring, which is why we will conduct our services in the summer and winter so as to not disturb the new, fragile shoots in the springtime. Watering Schedule

for Best Results & Optimal Growth Rate

Based on Watering System

The Bamboo Irrigation System

*Highly recommended and built by our specialists for consistency, direct root penetration, long-term durability, and inexpensive cost.

*Our custom built system includes a “Y” faucet connector for our line and your garden hose, an easy-to-use timer, a ½” in black durable flex tube, and adjustable 360° sprayer nozzles for every bamboo plant.

*We can adjust the bamboo irrigation system for you throughout the year, otherwise, it is very simple for you to use too.

  • Spring (March 1st - May 31st):  Daily (early morning) for 10 minutes per day (equates to ~1 gallon per plant).
  • Summer (June 1st - August 31st):  Daily (early morning)  for 10 minutes per day. The hottest twice daily if needed (optional).
  • Fall (September 1st - November 30th): Daily for 10 minutes per day or every other day (optional). Feel it out depending on the current temperature and watch for thirsty bamboo.
  • Winter (December 1st - February 28th): Daily or every other day for 10 minutes per day.

*Turn off the water completely if freezing temperatures are predicted (to prevent system damage) and turn on again immediately after a freeze (to hydrate very dry and thirsty bamboo).

Soaker Hoses

*We do not recommend soaker hoses due to their unpredictability, low pressure, high potential for early term UV cracking and clogging.

*Our recommendations for soaker hoses are not meant to be taken as factual and may not be accurate; assume your own risk when using, and watch for thirsty bamboo.

*We cannot manage systems not installed by us.

  • Spring (March 1st - May 31st):  Daily for 10-20 minutes per day (depends on your water pressure)
  • Summer (June 1st - August 31st):  Daily or every 6-12 hours for 10-20 minutes per day.
  • Fall (September 1st - November 30th): Daily for 10-20 minutes per day.
  • Winter (December 1st - February 28th): Daily or every other day for 10-20 minutes per day.

*Turn off the water completely if freezing temperatures are predicted (to prevent system damage) and turn on again immediately after a freeze (to hydrate very dry and thirsty bamboo)

Sprinkler Systems

*We do not recommend sprinkler heads for bamboo due to their inconsistency, water waste, and do not water bamboo roots directly; better used for sod other other plants, unless your bamboo is fully mature and sprinkler heads are located where the bamboo roots are.

*Our recommendations for sprinkler systems are not meant to be taken as factual and may not be accurate; assume your own risk when using, and watch for thirsty bamboo.

*We cannot manage systems not installed by us.

  • Spring (March 1st - May 31st):  Daily for 10-20 minutes per day (depends on your water pressure and aim)

Minimum Watering Requirements for New Bamboo Plants

It is recommended to follow the above watering schedule for a minimum of 1 year from the initial planting date. If not, the bamboo will struggle to establish with strength growing much slower than anticipated and could potentially completely die in some severe cases. Please feel comfortable contacting us about your irrigation plan.

Changing Variables for Bamboo Watering

Your bamboo’s watering needs are affected by the following factors:

  1. Temperature. Your bamboo needs more water with persistent heat and less water with persistent cold.
  2. Maturity. Bamboo needs more water when young or freshly planted and is more resistant to drought and reliant on Mother Nature rain when fully mature.
  3. Type of Irrigation System. Bamboo may need to be watered longer when using soaker hoses and sprinkler systems than if using The Bamboo Irrigation System.

Indicators of a Thirsty Bamboo

  1. Hard-shelled-taco leaf folding
  2. Leaf yellowing and drying
  3. Slow bamboo growth

*Please water bamboo immediately if you are seeing these signs; if you are unsure, please text a photo to our office and we will help you further.

Lifetime Warranty Disclaimer

As a bamboo member, you get to take advantage of the lifetime warranty; if your bamboo roots system completely dies, we will replace it under the following conditions:

  1. Bamboo did not die of dehydration
  2. Bamboo received manure compost winter application

How Much Does The Bamboo Irrigation System Cost?

We can build a simple low-cost and low-risk bamboo irrigation system which will water the bamboo in the most efficient way for a minimum of $300; price depends on the amount of bamboo plants and total linear footage. Please ask the office to give you an official price quote.

Why Purchase The Bamboo Irrigation System?

Our system is free of water waste, inconsistency, damage, and thirsty bamboo; your bamboo will receive water directly at the root systems delivered through a black, flex tube and adjustable 360° sprayer nozzles that do not crack in the sun or get clogged like soaker hoses commonly do. This system is durable, long-lasting, cost-effective and will water until your bamboo is fully established and long after that!

Why Should I Use The Bamboo Irrigation System Instead Of Other Systems?

By having an individual watering system for the bamboo, you can really optimize your water usage while nurturing your bamboo on a regular basis without overwatering the grass or other nearby plants who may be sharing the same irrigation system. For example, in many cases, by sharing the same grass sprinkler heads with the bamboo, you may be inclined to leave the sprinklers on for longer periods of time to ensure the bamboo is watered enough thus creating a muddy outdoor space and an expensive water bill in the process when the grass has had enough water and the bamboo has not. Sprinkler systems are also not very direct and often miss some bamboo while hitting others resulting in growth inconsistencies. Soaker hoses can easily crack in the sun and disintegrate, commonly become clogged, and they usually have a very low water pressure, so it’s hard to tell how much the bamboo has been watered.

Will I Always Need To Use The Bamboo Irrigation System?

After the bamboo is fully established, you will notice that they can rely more on Mother Nature rain instead of The Bamboo Irrigation System. You cannot water too much, but if you water too little, you will notice what looks like very thirsty and dry bamboo (see indicators above). Our system can assist in extended dry periods even long after full establishment of your bamboo, so the system really is a great ally to your bamboo. Using our system throughout the course of your bamboo’s life will only affect them positively by making them more green, lush and abundant! If it ever freezes, just turn the water off so as to not damage the system and turn on again once the freezing weather passes to hydrate the dry bamboo.

Should I Be Worried About Watering My Bamboo?

Bamboo is extremely hard to kill, especially after full establishment, and Mother Nature always seems to revive a struggling plant when it needs Her rain the most, so do not overthink growing bamboo. Many people use The Bamboo Irrigation System for new bamboo plants for a minimum of 1 year and often use it long after that! Our system's long-term use is beneficial and available for your bamboo, but certainly not a requirement; although, a nicely watered bamboo is the best looking and healthiest bamboo!

Can I Over-Water My Bamboo?

The answer is… not generally. As long as you have good drainage, this should not be an issue to consider. Our bamboo farm was completely underwater by 4 feet during Hurricane Harvey (2017) for 1 week; after the water drained, many bamboo leaves turned yellow, but after a few weeks, lushed out with foliage like they were on steroids! It is very hard to  over-water your bamboo, but please feel free to contact us if you are concerned.
